Tim Phan Lays Down Kings Preflop to Joe Hachem

Aug 23, 2010

Joe Hachem raises from the cutoff to 13,500, Tim Phan reraises from the big blind to 26,000, and Hachem moves all in for 118,500. Phan goes into the tank.

While Phan is thinking, Hachem says, "I’ll be honest with you, Timmy. I really like my hand, but I want you to fold." Phan says, "You’re the only one I might fold this to."

After a while, Phan flashes pocket kings and folds. The table is shocked, and one player says, "Cowboys?" Another player says that Hachem should show his cards after a huge laydown like that, but Hachem refuses. Phan doesn’t seem the least bit tilted by what happened.

A player tells Phan, "When you said you’d only lay the hand down to Joe, I figured you had queens." Phan says, "I’ll fold queens to anyone. I’ll only fold kings to Joe."
