Photo: Tom Cannuli went from a starting stack to more than the Day 1B chipleader in less than an hour.
Tom Cannuli showed up about 30 minutes after play began with a fresh stack of 30,000 in chips, and now, about an hour later, he’s up to 335,000. (WPT champion Andy Frankenberger, seated at the same table, filled us in on most of the action.)
In his first big hand, Tom Cannuli four-bet shoved all in, and Elena Stover called with . Cannuli turned over , and went on to crack Stover’s kings to pick up his first double up.
Then, a player limped under the gun, another player limped, and Cannuli bet 6,500 from the button. The small blind called, as did the first two limpers.
The flop came , and it checked to Cannuli, who bet 8,700. The small blind and the under-the-gun player both folded, but the other player called so it’s heads-up.
The turn card was an offsuit , his opponent checked, Cannuli bet, and his opponent check-raised all in.
Cannuli called with for a five-high straight, and his opponent turned over for a gutshot straight draw to chop the pot. The river card was a blank, and Cannuli doubled up again.
A short while later, Cannuli raised to 2,500, the table chipleader reraised to 10,000, and Cannuli called. The flop comes , Cannuli checked, the chipleader bet 10,000, and Cannuli check-raised to 25,000. The chipleader three-bet to 60,000, and Cannuli called.
The turn card was the , and both players checked.
The river card was the , and Cannuli moved all in. His opponent called, and Cannuli turned over to win the pot with a flopped full house, kings full of sixes. His opponent mucks without showing his cards as Cannuli doubles up to about 300,000 in chips — less than an hour after he sat down.
