UPDATED: Jeff Vertes *Doesn't* Fold Trips That Would've Made Quads

Aug 29, 2011

After a flop of [Qs9c9d], Tuan Nguyen checks the big blind, Ken Aldridge bets 85,000 from under the gun, and Jeff Vertes calls from the cutoff. Nguyen tanks for several minutes before me moves all in for 146,000.

Aldridge asks if he is allowed to reraise, but the all-in bet wasn’t large enough. So Aldridge calls, and Vertes calls behind.

The turn card is the [7c], and Aldridge bets 150,000. Vertes thinks for a bit before he folds J-10 face up (open-ended straight draw).

CORRECTION: We originally reported that Vertes folded J-9, which would have given him trip nines. It was clearly an error, as we have photograpic evidence that he actually had J-10. Our sincerest apologies go out to Vertes for misrepresenting his action here.

Nguyen shows [QhJs] for two pair (queens and nines), but Aldridge turns over [KhQc] for the same two pair with a higher kicker.

The river card is the [9h], which kills Aldridge’s kicker since he and Nguyen now have identical full houses (queens full of nines) — it’s a chopped pot.

Aldridge and Nguyen shake hands, both seemingly happy with the chop.

Ken Aldridge  –  1,531,000  (95 BBs)
Tuan Nguyen  –  290,000  (18 BBs)
Jeff Vertes  –  1,900,000  (118 BBs)
