Wealthy NYC businessman and poker savant Vadim Trincher became the newest WPT Champion last night by defeating wealthy NYC gambler Amnon Filippi and three other east coast rounders to take down the 2009 Foxwoods Poker Classic. In the audience to sweat Vadim were fellow multi-milioniare NYC poker players and WPT champs Nick Schulman and Eugene Katchalov. Seems The Takeover is the one who taught Vadim the game but you can tell in Vadim and Nick’s interview with Amanda Leatherman that the teacher feels surpassed by the student.
Amnon Filippi came up short one more time at a WPT final, not only losing his shot at the bracelet but also his best chance at tying John Phan for WPT Player of the Year. The addition of second place prize money ($409,405) made Amnon the 106th millionaire in WPT history so it’s not all bad news for Guts this morning.
Lastly, the Muck jinx holds true as our pick to win, Lenny Cortellino, finished in third winning $214,419. Vadim’s a natural poker champ, we’re a natural cooler. To each his own.
Next stop is Bellagio for the WPT World Championship VII starting next Saturday. We’re taking bids on who would like us not to pick them to win the biggest tournament of the season.
