Ladies and gentleman, welcome to our live coverage of the World Poker Tour National Event in Johannesburg! After a big slate of preliminary events, including a High Roller and Mixed Max tournament, it is now time for the Main Event.
The event takes place at the beautiful Las Vegas-esque Emperors Palace Hotel and Casino, where the theater room has been turned into a magnificent poker room.
At 4:00 p.m. local time (7am PST – 10am ET) the Main Event will kick off, and after three days of epic poker action we will crown a champion Sunday night.
The buy in of the Main Event is ZAR 12,500 (US$1,045) and this will be the third ever WPT National Event in Johannesburg. The first edition was hosted in 2013 when Devadasan Govender from South Africa took down the event after beating a field of 211 to capture the first-place prize of ZAR674,838 (US$72,993).
Last year it was another local that came out on top when Davor Dadic won the event for US$93,966, or over 800,000 South African Rand.
Stay tuned to WorldPokerTour.com for all your live coverage from South Africa, as we will be there from start to finish on all three playing days.
