WPT Korea Championship Event Day 1B Recap

March 29, 2024, Jeju island, South Korea, – The WPT Korea 2024 Championship Event Day 1b saw a total of 361 entries, making the running total of Day 1 at 684 entries, less than a 100 entries away from beating last year’s record.  

Veteran poker players were once again seen playing on the field.  Both Phil Ivey and Stephen O’ Dwyer once again tried their luck to reach Day 2 and both were able to qualify with Ivey having a little bit more than double the starting stack of 50,000 and O’ Dwyer with 184,500 chips.

The day also witnessed the return of the defending WPT Korea 2023 champion Yin Tao.  Tao qualifies for Day 2 with 165,500 chips and prays to have a back to back win.  In an interview, he also mentioned that he would like to go heads-up once again with last year’s runner up Valeriy Pak as he thoroughly enjoyed their match.  

Leading the pack of Day 1b is Lin Yan with 836,000 in chips.  

The 5th day of the WPT Korea 2024 Festival was quite busy with 6 events happening within the day.  The NLH Deepstack Day 1 Event has still 4 players playing into Day 2 with Kojiro Doi from Japan leading with 660,000 chips

For the first time in Jeju history, Jeju Island experienced a 2-7 Triple Draw tournament with Jun Weng from China being the very first champion, bringing home a WPT trophy and a cash prize of KRW 4,510,000.00 (~US$3,400).

A victor also emerged in Jie Xui at the Pot Limit Omaha Event #23, winning KRW 11,423,000.00 (~US$8,500).

And finally, the Hyper Turbo Bounty NLH, which was moved 2 hours later than scheduled because of the number of entries in all events, was won by Naoto Takeya from Japan who happily finished the day with KRW 7,919,000 (~US$5,900).
