WPT Vienna Day 3: Three Millionaires - One Chip Leader: Goswin Siemsen

It’s the end of Day 3 and WPT Vienna has whittled itself down to 21 players, and there is nothing separating the top three players who each have over one million in chips. Norbert Szecsi (1,022,000), Morten Christensen (1,057,000) and Goswin Siemsen (1,193,000) each have seven figures with Siemsen the slight chip leader.

When the day started it was Chris Moorman, Darko Stojanovic and Morten Christensen who were in charge, and in Level 15 the name of Wilhelm Fuhrer joined them, making a quartet of front-runners. Fuhrer was holding [Jx] [Jx], Brent Norris was holding [Ax] [Qx] and Paolo Compagno [Ad] [3d] – and the three of them were staring at a flop of [As] [Ac] [Ks]. Things did not look too good for Fuhrer, until runner-runner jacks handed him quads, the scalps of both players and 430,000 in chips.

Joining Norris and Compagno on the sidelines was our Day 1A chip leader David Breitfuss. It wasn’t a good day for Brietfuss who saw his stack reduce to shove or fold size and Ben Wilinofsky was waiting to pick it up. [Qx] [Qx] v [Kx] [Qx] in the customary shove and call, and the Canadian was up to 250,000 in chips. But the elimination of David Breitfuss didn’t remove the name Breitfuss from the chip counts. Fabio Breitfuss, the younger brother of David, was also in the competition and he ending the day on 315,000 in chips.

Into Level 16, and WPT Player of the Year Andy Frankenberger doubled up to get himself back into contention, just before the first cracks started to appear in the Chris Moorman wall. Firstly, Moorman was involved in a pot with Marko Neumann where the German rivered a straight to beat the pocket kings of the online legend. Next it was EPT Champion and Sunday Million winner Michael Eiler who took a hammer and cracked the wall of Moorman. It was an pre flop all-in flip and before you know it, it was Germany 2 England 0 and Moorman was down to 200,000 chips from a starting stack of 441,000. Not long after and Moorman lost the lot when all the money went in the mixer on a flop of [Tx] [4x] [2x] with Moorman holding [Kx] [Tx] and Marko Neumann holding pocket fours for a set. Moorman was out and Neumann was up to 500,000 chips.

Andrew Badecker removed Marvin Rettenmaier from the WPT Vienna equation before Ben Wilinofsky moved up a few gears. Wilinofsky eliminating a raft of players, most notably David Vamplew, and he was our new chip leader on 680,000 chips. Over to you Marko Neumann, and he took up the challenge by just sitting there whilst Michael Eiler spewed every single chip to him. Eiler had a poker mental moment when he moved all-in over a Neumann bet on a board of [9s] [9d] [8h] [5d], holding [Ts] [6s], and Neumann was sat with [Ks] [Kd]. One card later and he had 800,000 chips and had regained the chip lead.

Into Level 17 and it was bubble time, or as Matt Savage put it, "the second longest bubble in his tournament career." We will skip right to the exit hand and what a horrible way to die for Ben Vinson! He got all of his chips in good against Ben Wilinofsky and the Canadian delivered the suckout to break Vinson’s heart. Vinson held [As] [Kd], Wilinofsky the inferior [Kh] [7h] but a [7s] on the flop changed everything. Vinson was out in 46th place and everyone celebrated his demise with a round of applause.

After the bubble burst the place went elimination crazy and Ben Wilinofsky was eating most of them up when he became our first player to move over the one-million chip mark. We lost our WPT Player of the Year, Andy Frankenberger, eliminated by Maximillian Senft and then Darko Stojanovic, the Day 1B chip leader was also eliminated. Ben Wilinofsky’s magic dust started to wane and the likes of Ogjnen Sekularac, Norbert Szecsi and Goswin Siemsen started to capitalise on the short stacks that were shoving into them like krill in the face of an open mouthed whale.

Just as we were about to break we lost Chris Sly in a flip against Sekularac, Yohann Aube was eliminated by the excellent Tristan Wade and last but not least Goswin Siemsen eliminated WPT Champions Club member Yevgeniy Timoshenko to take the chip lead in the penultimate hand of the day.
