Zamani Once Again in Pole Position in Hublot WPT POY Race

Benjamin Zamani has grown accustomed to being out front in the Hublot WPT Player of the Year race. He has been leading pretty much the entire season.

This giant event is going to be a huge opportunity to pick up points in the race, as it the top tier of points in the POY model thanks to its more than $4 million prizepool. So far though, only one of the top ten contenders is through to Day 2 in this event and it is–Ben Zamani.

Zamani bagged up 54,000 chips yesterday, which is below average but still plenty of chips to work with when Day 2 action begins. Several other players tried to get through yesterday, but were unable to bag by day’s end.

That is not to say more players will not get through during Day 1B. Darren Elias (3rd) and Daniel Weinman (6th) did not play this event, but the rest of the top ten was here, and most of them are in today’s field.

Mike Sexton (2nd), Ema Zajmovic (8th), and Jesse Sylvia (9th) are all Shooting Stars in today’s field, so they will have to navigate the action with a very large target on their backs. Daniel Strelitz (4th), James Romero (5th), and James Mackey (10th) are all playing as well.

Nathan Bjerno (7th) played and busted yesterday, but we believe he has not exercised his re-entry option and could still register for Day 1B.

Keep in mind two that the top ten are not the only players drawing live at taking the lead at this stop. With 1,400 points going to the winner (not to mention the handsome Hublot King Power Unico Carbon and Red watch pictured above), anyone with 1,100 points could tie Zamani atop the standings, so the top 19 could all take the lead and really anyone with a few hundred points could make themselves a factor in the race.
